STÔN BY LATONDRA
"My clients have a clear sense of personal style and enjoy experimenting with their jewelry – layering stôn with vintage and contrasting designs or discovering different ways to wear individual pieces. They have aspirations about how they want to impact the world and are inspired by the stories behind the stôn designs."
Latondra Newton, stôn
Stôn creates scultped pieces with presence, inspired by the rich stories of women that surround designer Latondra Newton. Raw textures, natural gemstones and fine metals are combined in ways that retain the essence of nature.
Latondra Newton's passion for jewelry design is anchored in rich life experiences. She was an engineer in her early career and that work fostered an appreciation for structure, form and repeatable quality. Working in corporate leadership roles around the world gave her a fascination with people and how they navigate their lives. She has a desire to be a part of how they live, love and celebrate, and she creates pieces that she hopes will become a part of the life stories of women and men everywhere.
Latondra comes from a lineage of artisans who made quilts, furniture and houses. Their talents instilled the value of utility and beauty coexisting. That’s why she designs pieces that fit well and empower the person wearing them.
Her desire is for every stôn piece to feel as if it’s been unearthed. She carves the wax herself and works hand in hand with a highly skilled jeweler who brings them to life. Together they share the metal finishing work.
Latondra launched her bespoke line in June of 2017, after receiving overwhelming encouragement from friends, family and jewelers who mentored her. As a dual resident of Tokyo and Southern California, she took weekend wax carving and metalsmithing classes to learn the craft. It was important to Latondra to have the skill to translate her design vision into physical form.
Latondra has a long history of artistic pursuits, including painting, hand-made textiles, and photography. She also designs small-scale home fixtures in her spare time. Although jewelry is a recent passion, her work has already received numerous accolades from top jewelry influencers.
Her spiral pulley necklace was awarded the prestigious NY NOW ® Summer 2018 “Best in Market” award for its craftsmanship and innovation.
