The pearl is the queen of gems and the gem of queens
— ANONYMOUS

Known as the worlds oldest gem, pearls have a long, extensive, rich and mysterious history. Chinese royalty were the gifted recipients of pearls dating back thousands of years, and pearls were considered to be the ultimate status symbol by ancient Romans. There are numerous anecdotes about pearls from Julius Caesar to Cleopatra. Known as the “Queen of Pearls”, Margherita of Italy wore large pearls and considered them to be her lucky charms. During the Renaissance, Queen Elizabeth I and other aristocrats would use pearls to decorate their hair and clothing.

While pearls have long been attributed to 2500 B.C. and the Roman Empire, a recent discovery by French researchers in 2012 found what is to be believed the oldest pearl ever discovered. It was located in the United Arab Emerites along a graveside and was named after the region where it was found. Scientific research determined that the pearl was over 7,500 years old !

Classified as a gemstone, pearls are the only gems that come from a living creature vs. gemstones which are mined from the earth.

Always considered a classic and often “in and out” of fashion, pearls are a mainstay of any jewelry lovers wardrobe and have been adorned, admired and collected by the most celebrated and beloved fashion icons, from royalty, to Coco Chanel, Jaqueline Kennedy, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn. Once again, as fashion is cyclical, pearls are now back on trend and seen on the Paris runway by all the big fashion houses - and they are bold and beautiful! Pearls rock, so to speak, and now make their power play once again!

Pearls connect to our inner Goddess and they make us feel a bit like our royal ancestors.

Pearls emit and evoke “positive vibes”. They are nurturers of love and mood elevation- they are calming and soothing. Makes perfect sense they are such a common choice for brides. Ruled by the Moon and Water, they help to open up those who may hold in their emotions. Typically assigned to June as a birthstone, pearls are also attributed to zodiac signs Gemini and Cancer. Pearls are a 30th anniversary gemstone.
